Golden age games 2015 participants

Thursday, September 24, 2015
Kineisotherapist Sharon Taylor-Johnson coached 22 Veterans who participated in the VA’s 2015 National Golden Age Games, and they returned with 17 medals.  They competed against more than 500 other Veterans from across the nation in sports like air rifle, shot put, horseshoes, shuffleboard, bowling, swimming, and cycling, among others.
To compete in the Golden Age Games, Taylor-Johnson works with veterans yearlong to build up functional strength and to increase their endurance in order to be ready to compete in the games, which took place in Omaha, Nebraska. Taylor-Johnson says, regardless of the veteran’s disability, they experience a positive, life-changing perspective by participating, learning that they can lead a more active life despite age and disability.  The veterans come to understand that life is not over and they can still participate in some sports despite their golden years.
