Accreditations & Achievements

The VA Maryland Health Care System is committed to provide safe, quality and compassionate care to Veterans.  As a part of this commitment, the health care system participates in surveys and reviews from various accrediting bodies to determine our compliance with their standards of quality and safety.  The health care system is recognized for successful compliance with these standards by receiving accreditations or awards from the accrediting bodies.  Some of our recent accomplishments include:

The Joint Commission

In December 2017, the VA Maryland Health Care System received full accreditation from The Joint Commission for our hospital, long term care, behavioral health and home care programs for a period of 39 months.

In September 2017, the VA Maryland Health Care System received full accreditation from The Joint Commission for our Opioid Treatment Program for a period of 39 months.  This is one of the largest VA Opioid Treatment Programs in the nation.

CARF (Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities)

In March 2018, the VA Maryland Health Care System received full accreditation for a period of three years from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for the following Residential Programs:

  • Assessment and Referral: Integrated: AOD/MH (Adults)
  • Community Housing: Integrated: AOD/MH (Adults)
  • Residential Treatment: Integrated: AOD/MH (Adults)
  • Employment Services: Employee Development Services

In February 2016, the VA Maryland Health Care System received full accreditation from the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) for our Comprehensive Integrated Inpatient Rehabilitation Program for a period of three years.

College of American Pathologists (CAP)

In January 2018, the VA Maryland Health Care System received full accreditation from the College of American Pathologists (CAP) for a period of three years.

Long Term Care Institute (LTCI)

In March 2018, the Perry Point VA Medical Center received full accreditation from the Long Term Care Institute (LTCI) for our Community Living Centers.

In February 2018, the Loch Raven VA Medical Center received full accreditation from the Long Term Care Institute (LTCE) for our Community Living Centers.

American Association of Blood Banks (AABB)

In January 2018, the VA Maryland Health Care System received full accreditation from the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB).

American College of Surgeon (ACoS) - Commission on Cancer (CoC)

In April 2016, the VA Maryland Health Care System received full accreditation from the American College of Surgeons (ACoS) – Commission on Cancer (CoC) for our cancer care programs.

Association for Assessment & Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC)

In December 2017, the VA Maryland Health Care System received full accreditation from the Association for Assessment & Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) for our Animal Research Program.
