If pictures say 1000 words, than tattoos offer personal narratives on those bodies wearing them, especially for service members and veterans. Their tattoos commemorate an array of deeply personal losses, traumas and more, chronicling events that took place during their service, which may have wounded and scarred them, internally and externally.  With the support of the VA Capitol Health Care Network (VISN 5) Mental Health Research, Education and Clinical Center, some clinicians and veterans at the Martinsburg, VA Medical Center have created a powerful set of recovery stories and photographic portraits based on veterans’ tattoos. The traveling photography exhibit, Warriors, Tattoos and the Stories They Tell will be on display at  Perry Point, April 3-7 in the lobby of Building 366.  Funding from the VISN 5 MIRECC Small Grants Program for Recovery Innovations coupled with significant in-kind contributions from Martinsburg funded  this multimedia exhibit.  The photos will be on display at various VA sites. within VISN 5 in the coming months.  Here is a link to the project and the stories attached to the tattoos if you want to learn more:
