Health Care at Your Finger Tips
U.S. Army Veteran Gregory Brown uses MyHealtheVet to access health care any time of the day.
Prior to the hip surgery he had the day after turning 63, Gregory used his mobile phone to contact his orthopedic surgeon. He wasn’t calling or texting, he was using the VA patient portal, MyHealtheVet, to communicate. “I just send a message through MyHealtheVet and I get a quick response, usually the same day or the next day,” he explains. “It works perfectly.”
In addition to interacting with his surgeon and other members of his health care team, Gregory uses MyHealtheVet for medication refills, to request appointments, to read notes about health care conditions, and to contact the Patient Advocates. He recommends the online tool to his friends, even those who aren’t computer savvy. “I tell other Veterans I remember when I was like that, I only knew computers a little. But someone at the MyHealtheVet office helped guide me through the process and now I can do it myself.”
The portal puts communication with his care team literally at his fingertips, 24 hours a day. “No matter what time of day it is, I’ll have a question about my health,” he says. “I can go to MyHealtheVet and send a message while it’s on my mind. I don’t have to worry about forgetting it the next day. My care team will see it when they get into work, and they’ll get back to me. I really love it.”
