Have You Gotten A Flu Shot?

Veteran patient receiving a flu shot.

Veterans can get their flu shots at any VA medical center or outpatient clinics throughout the state.

Friday, October 16, 2015

Flu season is upon us again, and it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get your flu shot. The influenza virus is serious, killing 36,000 people annually. A contagious disease, the flu presents a risk to all children ages 6 months to 18 years, anyone age 50 and older, health care providers, child care workers, residents of long-term care facilities, and anyone with long-term health care problems. Because of these alarming statistics, all veterans enrolled in the VA Maryland Health Care System--except those allergic to eggs or who have experienced severe allergic reactions—are encouraged to get an annual flu vaccination. To make it more convenient for veterans to get their flu vaccination, the VA Maryland Health Care System is offering free Walk-In Flu Shot Clinics at each of all VA medical centers and outpatient clinics throughout the state.  Eligible veterans do not need an appointment to get a vaccination during one of the walk-in clinics. Veterans can also receive their vaccination from the VA Maryland Health Care System during their annual primary care visit.
