Since the school year started in fall 2012, Perryville Elementary School has maintained an ongoing commitment to pay tribute to hospitalized Veterans at the Perry Point VA Medical Center, a division of the VA Maryland Health Care System.  “Through continued communication with the school principal, we have developed a relationship that provides young children in our local community the opportunity to engage in activities honoring Veterans,” said Susan Kern, program manager for Voluntary Service for the health care system.

Student activities have included a holiday musical program held at the medical center, crafting handmade Veterans Day and Valentines’ Day greeting cards that were distributed to inpatients, and most recently an artwork display that has been placed in a high traffic area of the medical center to be enjoyed by Veterans and their family members, volunteers, and staff.
