April 30, 2008 BALTIMORE—Kenya N. Griffin, a resident of Pikesville, Md., has been appointed the program manager for Public Relations and Community Outreach for the Veterans Affairs (VA) Maryland Health Care System. Griffin brings 10 years of public relations experience in the private and public sectors to her new position. Her skill in managing national special projects and her comprehensive knowledge of the VA system will be an asset to the VA Maryland Health Care System. As the program manager for Public Relations & Community Outreach, Griffin will be responsible for the daily management and operation of the public affairs, special events and community outreach programs for the VA Maryland Health Care System, which includes the Baltimore and Perry Point VA Medical Centers, the Baltimore VA Rehabilitation & Extended Care Center and five VA outpatient clinics located throughout the state. Griffin began her VA career in 1999 as a Program Analyst for the Public & Community Relations Office at the Baltimore VA Medical Center. In 2003, she was promoted to Public Affairs Specialist for the VA Maryland Health Care System, where she successfully led the campaign that landed the system on the Top 10 List for the Best Places to Work in Baltimore for 2006. Prior to her current appointment, Griffin served as the Public Affairs Specialist for the Office of Mental Health Services in VA Central Office in Washington, DC, were she managed communications campaigns for national mental health initiatives for 153 medical centers across the country. Before starting her VA career, Griffin was as junior account executive at Profiles PR, Inc., a private public relations firm in Baltimore where she provided support for clients in the entertainment, restaurant, community service and education fields. Griffin received a bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication from Towson University in 1997. She is also a recent graduate of the VA Leadership Development Institute, where she completed a year of leadership training |
