American Legion Post 296 Contributes $15,000
For Veteran Patients Throughout Maryland

Members of the American Legion Benedict A. Andrew Post 296, Ladies Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion Squadron in Queenstown, Maryland, recently donated $15,000 to the Veterans Affairs (VA) Maryland Health Care System for the benefit of veterans throughout the state.

A total of $4,000 was donated to the All Purpose Accounts at the Baltimore VA Rehabilitation & Extended Care Center and the Perry Point VA Medical Center.  The two donations will be used to support programs and services that enhance the quality of care and comfort provided to veterans during their periods of hospitalization.

An additional $3,000 was donated to the All Purpose Account at the Cambridge Community VA Outpatient Clinic to support veterans who receive their care at the clinics.

To support the hospitalized veterans at the Baltimore VA Medical Center, $4,000 was donated to purchase new flat screen televisions for two of the facility’s inpatient medical care units.  Currently, hospitalized veterans who share a room on the medical care units at the Baltimore VA Medical Center also have to share a television.  Since the medical center serves a diverse veteran population with generational differences, it can be challenging for some patients to agree on television programming choices.  Adding flat screen televisions by each patient bed will eliminate this challenge and allow hospitalized veterans to make individual viewing choices.

Because of the support of community volunteers and organizations, like the American Legion Benedict A. Andrew Post 296, the programs and services offered to hospitalized veteran patients and outpatients throughout the VA Maryland Health Care System are continually enhanced.
