Renovations at Baltimore VA Medical Center Improve Patient Access

There are a number of renovation projects currently underway or that were recently completed at the Baltimore VA Medical Center to help improve patient access and security throughout the facility. As a part of the renovation process, a number of improvements were made to the medical center’s main lobby, including the construction of new and larger men’s and women’s restrooms, the installation of new floor tile and wall finishes, the addition of new security and information desks, and the placement of more seating in the Outpatient Pharmacy waiting area. In addition, the agent cashier window was relocated in the main lobby, and a new corridor is being added to improve access to the outpatient care clinic.

To accommodate the increased patient traffic to the new outpatient clinics on the 4th and 5th floors of the medical center, a new elevator is also being installed adjacent to existing patient and visitor elevators. In addition, the existing patient and visitor elevators are being modernized to improve their efficiency and the elevator lobbies on each floor are being renovated to provide improved lighting and larger and more convenient patient registration desks.

In the near future, a major construction project will begin to add additional outpatient clinic and office space by building in a portion of the atrium in the main lobby of the medical center from the 2nd through the 4th floors. The new space will provide additional outpatient clinic exam rooms and new and expanded offices for Prosthetics, Consumer Relations, Library and Research Services.

Throughout the renovation process, we urge you to pay attention to posted signage that will provide information about new traffic patterns, detours throughout the medical center and new entry and exit points for different areas. We apologize for any inconvenience the renovations may cause as we work to improve the facilities throughout the Baltimore VA Medical Center to better serve your needs.
