Online Medication Refill Service Now Available for Veterans

Prescription bottle

Tens of thousands of veterans are now receiving their prescription drug refills from the VA with greater convenience, speed and security, thanks to a new service available to veterans over the Internet.

The new secure online prescription refill service added to the VA’s My HealtheVet system, which connects with VA’s widely-respected electronic medical records system, has proven extremely successful.

When you order a prescription refill online, the request is routed to the VA’s computer system to be filled by one of the department’s outpatient mail pharmacies. The refill is then sent directly to your home, eliminating the need for a trip to the pharmacy and a wait in line.

To access the new online prescription refill service, you need to establish an account by logging onto the My HealtheVet website and completing the registration application. To establish an account and complete a registration application, please visit the My HealtheVet website at: www.myhealth.va.gov. The application requires you to establish a User ID and password, which will allow you to access the prescription refill site and view your medications by prescription number. Instructions are available on the website to guide you through the prescription refill process.

You can view the names of your medications and additional refill information by completing three additional steps. These steps, called In-Person Authentication (IPA), are a process used to verify a My HealtheVet user’s identity.

Before In-Person Authentication can occur, the registered user must:

  1. Download and view the My HealtheVet Orientation Video
  2. Download, read and sign VA Form 10-5345a
  3. Present VA Form 10-5345a and a government issued photo identification to a My HealtheVet authorized VA staff member at
their local VA facility. The VA staff member will validate the user’s identity and submit the VA Form 10-5345a to the
    My HealtheVet coordinator for processing.
