Photo of Brian A. HawkinsBrian A. Hawkins recently joined the VA Maryland Health Care System as the new Associate Director for Finance. Hawkins served as the Chief of the Business Office for the VA Tennessee Valley Health Care System prior to assuming the duties of his current position. In his capacity as the Associate Director for Finance, he is responsible for a yearly budget of approximately $350 million.

Hawkins began his VA career in 1992 as a Clerk Typist at the Hines VA Medical Center in Illinois. In 1995, Hawkins transferred to the West Side VA Medical Center in Chicago, where he held a variety of positions with increasing responsibility from Administrative Resident and Budget Analyst to a Supply Management Specialist. In 1997, Hawkins was selected as a Financial Analyst at the VA Medical Center in Decatur, Georgia, where he was later promoted to the Associate Chief Financial Officer. Thereafter, he served as Chief of the Business Office for the VA Tennessee Valley Health Care System, where he was responsible for overseeing the operations for intake, billing and collections, revenue, utilization review and claims administration.

Hawkins is a member of the American College of Health Care Executives, the Rotary Club International and the American Pilot and Aircraft Owners Association.

Photo of Dr. Dorothy SnowDr. Dorothy Snow was appointed the Chief of Staff for the VA Maryland Health Care System in October 2005. Snow, who received her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine and her Master’s in Public Health from the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health, began her VA career in 1979 as an intern at the former Loch Raven VA Medical Center. Since that time, she has held a variety of positions with increasing responsibility from Physician-in-Charge and Staff Physician in the Screening Area and the Hospital Based Home Care Program at the Loch Raven and Baltimore VA Medical Centers, to the Associate Chief of Staff for Performance Improvement & Education and Deputy Chief of Staff for the VA Maryland Health Care System.

Throughout her 25 year career in serving Maryland’s veterans, Snow has received numerous awards and has authored a variety of articles on subjects ranging from preventive care to improving colon cancer screenings. She is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians and the American College of Preventive Medicine, as well as a Diplomate with the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Preventive Medicine.

Stephen Armagon recently joined the VA Maryland Health Care System as the new Executive Assistant to the Associate Director for Operations.

Christopher T. Bever, Jr., MD, MBA, has been selected as the new Associate Chief of Staff for Research and Development.

Iris Hernandez-Autry, RN, was promoted to the Associate Chief Nurse position for Geriatrics & Long-Term Care.
Burnetter Jennings returns to the VA Maryland Health Care System from the Hines VA Medical Center as the new Chief of Medical Administration Service.

Dusty Lockett, RN, is now the new nurse manager for the Glen Burnie and Loch Raven VA Outpatient Clinics.
Andrew Pacyna has been selected as the new Executive Assistant to the Associate Director for Finance.

Philip Schaub, RN, returns to the VAMHCS team from the VA Capitol Health Care Network as the new Deputy Chief Nurse Executive.

Terry Tucker, RN, received the Professional Nurse Award for Clinical Excellence from the National Organization of VA Nurses (NOVA). This award is presented to a professional nurse who has made an outstanding contribution to the nursing profession or the Veterans Health Care System through excellence in clinical practice. Way to go Terry!

Eliot Siegel, MD, was named as one of the “Top 25 Innovators”in the June 2006 issue of Health Imaging & IT Magazine. Dr. Siegel was selected from several hundred online ballots submitted by readers of the diagnostic and imaging magazine. Congratulations Dr. Siegel!
