Ethics Advisory Team
The VA Maryland Health Care System has an Ethics Advisory Team that meets monthly to discuss ethical issues affecting patient care and the health care system.
The Ethics Advisory Team is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to assist staff, volunteers, Veterans and their family members to resolve ethical concerns. While any ethical issue relating to patient care is appropriate to refer to the Ethics Advisory Team, many cases that are addressed relate to the following areas:
- End-of-life care;
- Advance care planning/advance directives;
- Shared decision-making between patients, family members, and clinicians; and
- Appropriateness of care/professionalism.
