Front Atrium Project – The Baltimore VA Medical Center front lobby atrium construction projects have been completed.  These projects added additional administrative and clinical space to the 2nd through 6th floors of the medical center.  All of these new spaces from 2nd thru 4th floors have been occupied, 6th floor is partially occupied and 5th floor is schedule for occupancy in April 2013, along with the other section of the 6th floor.

Back Atrium Project – Above the Canteen Dining Area in the back atrium of the Baltimore VA Medical Center, another addition is currently under construction. The project, which will add 4,000 square feet of space to the medical center, will include a large classroom/conference room on the 3rd floor and space for Robotics Research on the 5th floor. The project will also include an expansion to the Canteen Retail Store on the 2nd floor.
Radiation Oncology Suite – Construction has also started on the Linear Accelerator Suite, which will be the centerpiece of the new Radiation Oncology Program at the Baltimore VA Medical Center.  The Linear Accelerator’s foundation and structural support columns that extend down through the existing three levels of the parking garage have been installed.  Parking in garage levels have been restored to their normal functions.  Free valet parking services are also available in the garage for Veteran patients coming to the medical center for an appointment. Construction is progressing with interior work and completion is scheduled for the summer of 2013 with equipment installation to follow and activation of the new space in early 2014.

Loch Raven VA Campus:
New Addition - At the Loch Raven VA Community Living & Rehabilitation Center, a 23,000 square foot addition to the facility is complete. The addition offers space for Kinesiotherapy, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and Recreation Therapy, in addition to providing a new multipurpose room for the facility. The space that was left from the move of the therapy programs to the new space is now new chapel and office space, for the Loch Raven VA Community Living & Rehabilitation Center.

Robotics and Rehabilitation Center – Construction on the new Exercise & Robotics Center at the Loch Raven VA Campus is complete.  Activation of the new space is scheduled for 2013. This new center will feature specialized equipment and facilities as part of a research program that is working to better serve the needs of stroke survivors.

Fort Howard VA Campus:
Fort Howard Veteran-Focused Community – The Department of Veterans Affairs has selected Fort Howard Development, LLC to develop a Veteran-focused community on the campus of the former Fort Howard VA Medical Center that will offer housing at various price points for Maryland’s aging Veteran population and single Veteran mothers. By partnering with a local developer through enhanced-use lease legislation, the VA will have a unique opportunity to offer assisted living programs and services to Maryland’s Veterans. The Veteran-focused community at Fort Howard will serve as a national model for addressing the needs of our nation’s Veterans by allowing them to age gracefully in-place while enjoying high-quality services and amenities. The construction of the Fort Howard Veteran-focused community is pending the signing of the lease between the VA and Fort Howard Development, LLC.

Fort Howard VA Outpatient Clinic – A part of the planned Veteran-focused community for the Fort Howard campus, the developer for the project will be required to construct a replacement facility for the Fort Howard VA Outpatient Clinic. The new and expanded clinic will be specifically designed to meet the growing outpatient needs of Maryland’s Veteran population. Construction of the new Fort Howard VA Outpatient Clinic will not begin until after the signing of the lease between the VA and Fort Howard Development, LLC. The current outpatient clinic at Fort Howard will remain in operation throughout the construction of the replacement facility. The new outpatient clinic will be located at the entrance to the Fort Howard VA Campus.

Perry Point VA Medical Center:
Housing for At-Risk Veterans – The Department of Veterans Affairs has selected the New York-based nonprofit organization HELP USA to advance its innovative initiative that will transform unused property at the Perry Point VA Medical Center—known as the “Village,” into viable housing units for formerly homeless Veterans and their families. Under the initiative, 60 of the existing vacant houses in the “Village” at Perry Point will be renovated and updated. Once construction begins, the project will take about a year to complete. Construction on the project is pending the signing of the lease between the VA and HELP USA.

Perry Point VA Medical Center Inpatient Substance Abuse Unit - Construction is underway in Building 22H at the Perry Point VA Medical Center. This building, originally constructed in 1942, houses the inpatient Substance Abuse and Residential Rehabilitation Program for VA Maryland Health Care System, and will undergo a full renovation to improve patient privacy and treatment areas, update building utility systems and infrastructure, and expand residential areas.  Construction work will be phased and is expected to be completed at the end of 2014.

Alternate Truck Entrance - The Perry Point VA Medical Center has elected to create an entrance to the campus for construction vehicles. The new entrance will allow for larger vehicles to access the campus without disturbing normal traffic flow through the town of Perryville or reducing access to the main entrance. The new entrance will utilize the existing road in the park behind the campus and add a new portion of road near the warehouse n the campus. The project also upgrades roads for the large vehicle access to other parts of the campus. Added security measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of our patients. A guard shack and locking gate will be installed on site to prevent unauthorized access or departure to the Perry Point campus. Construction for the new truck route is on schedule to be completed in July 2013.

Building 80H – Construction on the existing 23,000-square-foot is scheduled to begin in fall 2013. The full renovation will include a 5,000-square-foot, two-story addition to provide larger group therapy rooms, offices and support area for Outpatient Mental Health services. Additional renovations include utility system upgrades, a larger accessibility ramp, higher energy and water efficiency equipment and fixtures, and renovated rest rooms. This project is scheduled for a spring 2015 completion date.

VA Outpatient Clinics:
Fort Meade VA Outpatient Clinic – A new 13,000-square-foot VA outpatient clinic is opened for service in January 2013 at Fort George J. Meade. The new Fort Meade VA Outpatient Clinic is located adjacent to the Kimbrough Ambulatory Care Center and will provide Veterans living in Anne Arundel and Howard Counties, access to quality outpatient care in their own community, including audiology, mental health, primary, podiatry, women’s health and preventive health care. As the first VA outpatient clinic in the country to be Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Certified, the Fort Meade VA Outpatient Clinic will utilize sustainable building design to meet federal green policy requirements, including geothermal mechanical systems, water reducing fixtures, low-emitting window glazing and motion controlled lighting. To schedule a primary care clinic appointment at the Fort Meade VA Outpatient Clinic (Monday and Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.), call the VA Maryland Health Care System Appointment Line at:  1-800-463-6295, ext. 7333.

Pocomoke City VA Outpatient Clinic – To address the growing demand for outpatient services at the Pocomoke City VA Outpatient Clinic, a new and larger building was leased in Pocomoke City to replace the older clinic. The new facility has been designed and built out to meet the specific needs of Veterans living on Maryland’s Lower Eastern Shore. The new Pocomoke City VA Outpatient Clinic is located at 1701 Pocomoke Marketplace, Unit 211 in Pocomoke City.
