H1N1 Vaccine Availability and Flu-Shot Clinic ScheduleThe H1N1 vaccine is now available and is being distributed to all enrolled veterans throughout the VA Maryland Health Care System. We have not received our full shipment of the H1N1 vaccine, so we may run out of the vaccine at some locations until we receive our next shipment. If you are making a special trip to receive the H1N1 vaccine at any VA Maryland Health Care System flu shot clinic, you may want to call the clinic first to make sure that the vaccine is available. Seasonal Flu InformationThere is a national shortage of the Seasonal Flu Vaccine. The manufacturers have shifted their focus to producing the H1N1 Flu Vaccine. All walk-in clinics for the Seasonal Flu Vaccine have been cancelled throughout the VA Maryland Health Care System as a result of the national shortage. For the latest information about the Seasonal and H1N1 Flu Vaccines for the VA Maryland Health Care System, please call the Flu Information Line at 1-800-463-6295, ext. 7273, or visit our web site at www.maryland.va.gov and click on the H1N1 & Seasonal Flu Information link. To find locations throughout Maryland where the Seasonal flu shots are available, please visit www.flu.gov and click on the map of Maryland under the Flu Sot Locator section. What should I do if I have the H1N1 or Seasonal Flu? If you have the H1N1 or Seasonal Flu, please stay home and call the Appointment Call Center for the VA Maryland Health Care System at 1-800-463-6295, ext. 7333 to cancel and reschedule your appointment unless you need medical attention. You should stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone (unless you need medical attention). Your fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine, such as Tylenol®. If you need medical advice, please call the Telephone Care Line for the VA Maryland Health Care System 24 hours a day, seven days a week by dialing 1-800-865-2441. What are the symptoms of the H1N1 and Seasonal Flu? Flu symptoms may include fever, coughing, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, headaches, body aches, chills and fatigue. With the H1N1 flu infection, vomiting and diarrhea may also occur. Are there any restrictions for visitors? To protect our veteran inpatients and outpatients during this flu season, the VA Maryland Health Care System is asking friends and family members not to visit patients if they have any flu symptoms (i.e. fever, cough, runny nose, body aches, chills, vomiting or diarrhea).
